Setup

  1. Position the cable low or hold one dumbbell securely.
  2. Brace the trunk and point elbows forward.

Execution

  1. Extend the elbows without flaring them widely.
  2. Lower until a comfortable triceps stretch.

Feel and control

  • Ribs stacked
  • Elbows forward
  • Long finish

Avoid

  • Overarching the back
  • Flaring elbows
  • Using excessive depth
BREATHING

Exhale on extension; inhale on the return.

TEMPO

2 seconds extend, 3 seconds return

SAFETY

Use the pressdown alternative if the overhead position irritates the shoulders.
